History Hunters!

Our itinerary for those history hunters amongst you is one not to miss!

 

This 3-day itinerary takes in some of the County's best historical sites and finds great places to eat & stay during your trip.  Read on for more details and to download our County & Town Centre tourism maps.

 

*Top Tips– makes sure you pack sturdy shoes, comfortable clothing, maybe even a flask and a packet of your favourite biscuits for your walk on day 2. The hotel will be more than happy to fill your flask with hot water.

 

Day 1

 

Start off with a walk around the historic Holt Castle which is an open access site. A footpath leads from Castle Street via Castle Gardens (LL13 9AX) to the castle site. Parking and toilets are available on Green Street (LL13 9JF).

Distance - 2 miles by car

 

Enjoy a locally sourced lunch in the delightful Holt Lodge Hotel (SAT NAV– LL13 9SW) www.holtlodge.co.uk

 

Distance– 8.6 Miles by car

 

Walk off lunch at the Brymbo Iron Works (SAT NAV - Locate Brymbo Enterprise Centre at postcode LL11 5BT (Blast Road, Brymbo) and they are 200yds due south of it on New High Street, Brymbo LL11 5AX.

Next stop, Wrexham Museum (SAT NAV LL11 1RB) and explore the history of Wrexham.

Distance- 0.8 miles by car or 0.4 miles on foot 

 

St Giles Church (SAT NAV- LL13 8LS) – This is one of the ‘Wonders of Wales’ and is definitely worth a visit.

Distance– 6.7 miles (via A483)

Day 2

 

Check out of Rossett Hall Hotel after enjoying a hearty breakfast.

Travel to the wonderful Chirk Castle (SAT NAV – LL14 5AF) where there is plenty to see and do. It’s a good place to have lunch too.

Distance – 12.7 miles by car (via B4500)

 

Head to Glyn Ceiriog and park your car at the West Arms (SAT NAV - LL20 7LD), choose the trail you wish to follow for the afternoon and return later to West Arms to stay over in one of their beautifully refurbished rooms and enjoy a lovely meal next to a roaring fire. www.thewestarms.com

 

Day 3

 

Check out after a hearty full Welsh breakfast; ensure your phone is charge up again for photos.

 

Distance - 22.3 miles by car (via B4500)

 

Head to Minera Lead Mines (SAT NAV – LL11 3DU), park car and follow Clywedog trail. The trail follows a historic route, featuring Bersham Iron Works, Nant Mill Woods and ends up on the edge of Wrexham town centre.

 

Lunch in Wrexham town centre – suggest Lot 11café (11 Hill Street, Wrexham LL11 1SN), before taking taxi back to Minera Lead Mines (approx. cost £10)
