The Stiwt
The Stiwt Theatre is a much-loved 490-seat proscenium-arch venue in Rhosllannerchrugog, near Wrexham. Opened in 1926 and beautifully restored in the 1990s, it stands as a testament to the village’s mining heritage, having been originally funded by local miners. Wrexham County Borough Council owns the building, but it is run and maintained by the Stiwt Arts Trust, a registered charity that pays a nominal annual rent.
The Trust is led by volunteer trustees who work alongside a small team of staff and are responsible for programming, fundraising and the building’s upkeep. In addition to hosting concerts, plays, film screenings, and school events, the Stiwt also serves as a community centre for the village, with flexible spaces used for meetings, classes, and social gatherings. Deeply rooted in local identity, the Stiwt continues to serve as a cultural and communal hub for Rhos and the wider Wrexham area.
