FIRST DRIVE IN CINEMA A SUCCESS!

Organisers hope to bring another back this year...

Wrexham’s first drive-in cinema has been branded a huge success – with hopes the event could return for a second screening later on this year.

Held at the Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse yesterday afternoon, Wrexham’s first Valentine’s Day Drive-in Cinema was organised by Wrexham Council’s Events Team and Heart North Wales.

To coincide with the theme two romantic favourites, Beauty and the Beast and Notting Hill, were played for all to see on a giant 44ft screen.

The weather may have been cold and dreary on the outside, however inside the cars many embraced the drive-in theme by bringing blankets, thermos flasks and plenty of snacks to enjoy.

The event, which was the first of its kind for Wrexham saw 300 cars drive-in for the two screenings, leading to hopes that a similar event will be held later this summer.

Amanda Davies, Event Manager at Wrexham County Borough Council said: “We really felt that yesterday’s drive-in cinema was a great success and the feedback and photos that have been shared on line have been fantastic.

“Our events team here at Wrexham Council are always up for trying new events and by working with Bangor on Dee racecourse, Heart FM, This Is Wrexham and Vibsu taxi’s – we were able to stage a great afternoon & evening.

“We had 300 cars through the gates and both films looked great on the huge 44ft screen.”

Joe Bickerton, Destination Manager at Wrexham County Borough Council added:

“It’s brilliant that we’ve been able to bring another new event to the area and the level of take-up at both films was enough to make us confident of bringing the screen back later this year for another showing.

“With the support of the Local Authority and the Destination Wrexham partners, we are always looking to boost tourism within Wrexham and large events like these are a great way of drawing in both a local and regional audience.
